President's Report No 35

Hi Everyone,

WE DID IT!🙌🥳

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Torquay which held its inaugural Zoom Online Meeting last Monday night.🖥📞

It was wonderful to see everyone and hear how you’re all doing. We had some competitive members sharing exotic backgrounds and providing us with a laugh 😂

It was a pleasure to have 3 guests from Alan Anderson’s previous Club at Eltham, who were checking out the platform for their members. We also had Brian Mynott’s mate & my fellow BNI member John Morrison also join us🙌

The lovely Linda Neale has also returned & working close to home so it’s great to have her back at our Club (albeit a little differently)💐

The Board supported a proposal by Community Service Director Michael Reed to apply for a Surf Coast Shire Small Grant to purchase portable modems for Surf Coast Secondary College students who do not have access to the internet. Big thanks to Mike, Maggie, Mal & others who put together application in a short time to meet the deadline. Looking for a positive outcome in the very near future💻

As much as we Rotarians all want to “help” during the Covid19 pandemic, we also have to understand that our health & safety is paramount.  So with this in mind, we are always looking for opportunities like this one, where we can assist at arms length. So get in touch if you have an idea or know of any type of area where Rotary could assist🗣

Excited for tomorrow’s meeting-7.00pm BYO and as always NO PYJAMAS😆

May your isolation be the gift you didn’t know you needed.

Be.Kind.Always.

Kelly

Vale Whoozin
Sadly as Clubs and businesses have ceased holding "Face to Face" meetings and moved to platform's like Zoom there has been an exodus from the use of Whoozin.

Whoozin is reporting hat they have been incurring losses for several years and this downturn has resulted in them folding the business effective 10th April.

As we come out of the Coronavirus crisis and return to "Face to Face" meetings we will introduce another RSVP platform to manage our meeting attendance. So watch this space.

Should you require any further details please contact me to discuss.

A ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE WITH D5060 WASHINGTON BRITISH COLUMBIA
Now it may seem to be a ridiculous thing to be promoting this Friendship Exchange that is scheduled to take place in September at a time when we are all housebound thanks to Covid-19.  But regardless of how unrealistic this appears please focus on an "Expression of Interest" for the concept rather than the dates being proposed if you are interested...…....
.

D 5060 Washington/British Columbia has been in touch with D 9780 regarding a RFE between the two Rotary Districts. As this is their first exchange there have been a few complications regarding dates and due to the size of their District getting the team from the South side to the North side. But we think we are ready to go now.

Again we are looking at Expressions of Interest only at this stage as the coronavirus may still be around and if that is so, no one is going anywhere. The dates for this exchange are Saturday 12th September 2020 to Friday 25th September 2020.

The RFE to D 5970 has been popular and the team is now in place and the team leaders have been selected and the team are now just waiting to see what happens next.

I know that some of you may not be meeting weekly but if you can get this information out to your club Rotarians by email and in your bulletins, that would be amazing and much appreciated.

Again, this is for Expressions of Interest only at this stage. There will be no RFE trip if the coronavirus continues to spread through the world. Please keep safe and look after your family, friends and neighbours.

 Thank you,

Gail Barrett-Chair

Bushfire Relief Donation Options - Be Sure The Money Reaches Those in Need
As much of Australia deals with the tragedy of Bushfires many donation funds are being set up by both government and private groups, and one of the most commonly asked questions is

"Which Charity will ensure that your donation dollars reach those in need?"

When you donate through Rotary you can be assured that over 97% of the monies raised will go directly to those in need.

We are very saddened by the devastating bushfires in our district and across Australia. If you are looking to donate to help those suffering, it is important to make sure your donation is well directed. Below are details of 2 Rotary funds which are assisting those affected.

1. RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service National Fire Appeal
This is the only option for those who can only donate to a recipient with DGR (Donor Gift Recipient) status, or those who want tax deductibility on their donations. Go to www.rawcs.org.au to donate. To make sure the funds go to those affected by the fires in our district, tag the donation to ‘East Gippsland’. RAWCS do use 2.75% of the donations for administration.

2. East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee
This is an account of the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale with the funds controlled by the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee. Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Projects Account BSB 633000 Acct 165960451. Please email the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee when you donate eastgrotaryfireaid@gmail.com

Other worthy causes are:-

East Gippsland Hay Donations and transport costs
For those wishing to donate hay to East Gippsland or elsewhere it is being organised through ‘Need for Feed’

Go to http://www.needforfeed.org/  to arrange it.

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray. The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includes reimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder.

Future Meetings
Whilst  we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, future meetings will held through the ZOOM Platform.

All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.

Last week was an Introduction to ZOOM with over 30 Club Members and friends coming together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially

This week  arrangements have been made for one of the newer Club Members to present their personal story as a "Rotarian behind the Badge " session

These are testing times for all of us , however I am sure as Rotarians we can take up this challenge
