President's Report No 28

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Australia Day Long Weekend🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Most of us have been doing our bit at the Book Fair for the last week with outstanding results! Treasurer Mal is totalling the takings and we’ll have a final report at next Monday’s meeting. I think we may be close to a new record.....🙏

On that note I’d like to give a big shout out to the Book Fair Committee-especially Coordinator Rhonda Anchen, who along with her team, plus the band of merry helpers, have worked tirelessly to pull off a magnificent event & fundraiser for our Club🙌

Sunday pack down was a true case of many 🤲 make light work! Must of been the lure of the Ginger Fluff🍰

This coming weekend brings the International Cyclists to town for the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. You still have time (29 Jan cut off) to register as a volunteer-please register under ‘Rotary Club of Torquay’ and we will receive $50 per registration 🚴😁

I am looking for offers to take Ting on outings, home for a dinner, catch a movie, drive down the Great Ocean Road, an ice cream....

Thanks to Trevor & Geoff who actually took Ting sailing - she really enjoyed it 😌

Last but not least - have you registered for District Conference yet? This will be a fantastic weekend in Swan Hill (my previous home before Torquay). It’s a lovely place and the locals would love to see as many people as possible there for the weekend 20-22 March‼️

Now that the Book Fair has wound up next meeting is all about the MOTOR SHOW🚗🚕🚙🚌🚎🚐🚓🏎🏍🛵🛺 and important for everyone to attend as Team Captains will be making sure you all know what your tasks involve, so please attend-we all have jobs to do!

Have a great week.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Kelly 😁

Stories
The 2020 Motor Show is nearly here

The 2020 Motor Show is now just over a week away on Sunday 9th Feb and we are grateful for all the support we are receiving to assist with the many tasks on the day. It is important that everybody attends the meeting this Monday 3rd Feb for a final briefing by your respective Team Leaders on what is required for the duties that you will be performing at the event.

You will be pleased to know that we had a very successful Media Release on Wednesday on the foreshore with all major local newspapers in attendance which will hopefully produce some great promotion of the event
.

This is the first year of our "Great Ocean Road Cruise" which is being held on the Saturday afternoon as a precursor to the Motor Show. "The Cruise" Sub Committee of Tom, Richard and Bruce are doing a great job putting this together and to promote this new addition to the Motor Show to ensure its success. However, there are two things that all of you who are Facebook users could all do to further boost the success of both events if you have not already done so.
So please spread the word and we'll see you on Monday Night for the briefing

Book Fair Wrap

The annual Torquay Rotary Book Fair once again was a wonderful success. The commitment by Rotary members, Probus volunteers, friends and family ensures its smooth operation.

We would like to thank our generous sponsors, Torquay Books, Kithbrook Country Club, Lifestyle Living and Hayden’s Real Estate for their continuing support. We would also like to thank our fabulous community who donate and purchase the thousands of books.
Whilst the final numbers are still to be crunched the entire Club can be proud of the fact that together we have raised over 11,000 dollars to fund Local, National and International Rotary Projects

Bushfire Relief Donation Options - Be Sure The Money Reaches Those in Need
As much of Australia deals with the tragedy of Bushfires many donation funds are being set up by both government and private groups, and one of the most commonly asked questions is

"Which Charity will ensure that your donation dollars reach those in need?"

When you donate through Rotary you can be assured that over 97% of the monies raised will go directly to those in need.

We are very saddened by the devastating bushfires in our district and across Australia. If you are looking to donate to help those suffering, it is important to make sure your donation is well directed. Below are details of 2 Rotary funds which are assisting those affected.

1. RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service National Fire Appeal
This is the only option for those who can only donate to a recipient with DGR (Donor Gift Recipient) status, or those who want tax deductibility on their donations. Go to www.rawcs.org.au to donate. To make sure the funds go to those affected by the fires in our district, tag the donation to ‘East Gippsland’. RAWCS do use 2.75% of the donations for administration.

2. East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee
This is an account of the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale with the funds controlled by the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee. Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Projects Account BSB 633000 Acct 165960451. Please email the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee when you donate eastgrotaryfireaid@gmail.com

Other worthy causes are:-

East Gippsland Hay Donations and transport costs
For those wishing to donate hay to East Gippsland or elsewhere it is being organised through ‘Need for Feed’

Go to http://www.needforfeed.org/  to arrange it.

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray. The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includes reimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder.

DG Rosanne's Purple House Project

image

You are invited to contribute to a project to support Purple House, an organisation that provides dialysis services to remote indigenous people in Central Australia.

Purple House is an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Now operating 16 remote clinics and a mobile dialysis unit called the Purple Truck, Purple House is  getting patients back home so that families and culture can remain strong.

DG Rosanne Kava has asked us all to provide any of the following items to our Assistant Governor, Judy Beasley,  who will pass them on to Purple House CEO Sarah Brown for delivery to clients in remote communities
  • Soaps, shampoos, conditioner, body lotion and toiletries including combs, brushes, toothpaste and tooth brushes  (no sanitary items as they are sourced elsewhere).
  • Special recognition will be given to the Club that provides the top contribution.
Think about volunteering to assist Purple House if you are travelling in central Australia, eg to assist in building a new Purple House in Coober Pedy, or as a nurse on the Purple Bus or one of the Purple Houses.   Click the image for more details or CLICK HERE to contact Purple House or phone         08 8953 6444.

Please give your donated items to Lesley Shedden or Mike Reed at any of our Monday meetings.
