President’s Message

Hello,

Members were advised by email of the passing of Honorary Member Chris Sims last weekend. We collectively pass on our sincere condolences to Chrissie and family at this difficult time. Chris was a valued member and friend to Rotary and served as a District Governor, President and Director over his distinguished time as a Rotarian.

On a lighter note we had a lovely catch up at our Social meeting at the Torquay Hotel on Monday night. Approximately 22 members and partners enjoyed a meal and lively conversation.

Directors will be asking their committees to meet and discuss disbursement of funds raised this Rotary year. This is an important exercise and one all Club members should contribute to.

Our focus this coming week is on Monday night’s THANK YOU to Volunteers & Sponsors Night. Please ensure you wear your badge and let’s make it a great evening.

As always please check the BBQ rosters, continue to collect cans etc for the container deposit scheme, separate your soft plastics to drop into Woolies and make the most of this amazing weather 🏖️

Say Yes to Respectful Relationships; Be Kind

Say Yes To Respectful Relationships; Be Kind

Say No to Domestic and Family Violence

At the recent Board Meeting we decided to change what we do to increase awareness around “Domestic and Family Violence”

We are making “Say Yes to Respectful Relationships; Be Kind” our key focus.

We were thinking of having a walk on 16th May to celebrate the Epic Service of Rotary. However, as we are at the Cowrie Market the next day, we thought we would actually have more of an impact if we utilized our site at the Cowrie Market to get our message across.

We are going to have our signs, purple netting and our purple vests. Hopefully we will get some pamphlets and/or business cards that people may pick up

If anyone can give me a little bit of assistance that would be amazing.

Thank you.

Linda

Walking Basketball

On Tuesdays, (1030-1130) at Wurdi Baierr Stadium, there is Mixed Walking Basketball. Oh my, what fun! And what is more there is no cost. Only requirement is that you are 55yo and over.

We did 30mins of drills, then played a half court fun game, with 4 on each side. Rules include no running and jumping – to protect the ageing and minimize the risk of fractures etc.

Come along on Tuesday mornings and join in the fun and do some exercise. Afterwards there is an opportunity to have a cuppa and chat for 30 minutes.

Collection For Our Village

Mothers Day is next weekend. It would be amazing if we could make a lovely donation to Our Village, that could be given to new Mums. We have three completed blankets to date and are working on another couple.

If you could afford to donate some toiletries or baby clothing, nappies and other baby products, that would be fantastic and they could be donated along with the blankets.

I recognize that things are becoming hard for us all, but imagine what it is like for the Mums who have nothing for their newborn and other children. Please help if you can.

I will collect the items up until 5th May 2026 and will take them into Our Village on 5th May – so they are there before Mother’s Day.

Thank you,

Linda
