President’s Report

Hello,

Another busy week starting off with our Annual General Meeting at Kithbrooke Park on Monday night. We moved through the formalities then moved onto the special items which saw the club members vote unanimously to adopt the new Rotary International Constitution and Club By-laws.

PE Sue Currie was called upon to introduce her Board of Directors for 2025-2026:
President: Sue Currie
President Elect: vacant
Immediate Past President: Kelly Binyon
Vice President: Michael Reed
Secretary/Club Services: Neil Henderson Treasurer: Gerard Hogan
Community Service: Lesley Shedden
Foundation: Phil Beasley
 International: Ray Ayers
 Environment: Judy Rutter
Youth Services: Amanda Hough
Membership: Bruce Turner
Public Image: Kelly Binyon
Ray Ayres gave an update on his planned trip to Lese Olai in PNG this coming week.

Linda Neale updated us on the Community Walk to Say No to Family & Domestic Violence (see her report and pictures further in the Bulletin) that was held the following morning. She also reminded members to bring donations for Torquay Food Aid next week (non perishables for Xmas hampers). Plus a call up for bbq & resale shed volunteers (thanks to all who put their names down).

Daryl Lee thanked members for purchasing raffle tickets at the previous meeting - over $5000 was raised in support of Say No to Domestic Violence by the Strathmore Men’s Shed.
It was great to see a few members who have been travelling, back at the meeting. Bunnings BBQ this Sunday - please check the roster for this and upcoming events.

Looking forward to learning about our newish member Ray Ayers this coming Monday night.

 Regards, Kelly

Rotary Says No to Domestic and Family Violence

Tuesday 25th November – what a morning! The sun was shining and the ocean was all in its glory Then a few clouds appeared – some black even, and the wind joined us, but not detrimentally.

We commenced our Say No 2 Domestic and Family Violence Walk with the 33 walkers, which was fantastic. This included Rotarians from Geelong; Victorian Police; Representatives from Zonta and Orange Door, and Torquay Community House; local community members, and our own awesome Rotarians. I am pleased to say that the male Rotarians out-numbered the female Rotarians. Well done guys – you are setting an amazing example to the local community – that this is something that we all need to advocate for.

We walked from the Surf Life Saving Club – wearing our purple, and made our way along the Esplanade to the Zeally Bay Car Park. There was lots of chatting as well as thinking about what a world of Peace would look like and the joy that life would be if we all Respected one another.

Lots more photos and video on this link

We were then privileged to hear from some amazing speakers. Firstly – Rotarian PDG Lesley Shedden; followed by Cathie Hastie from the Victorian Police; Beryl McMillan from Zonta; Rhonda Achen from Torquay Community House and Alexander Tretheway from Orange Door.

There needs to be some big Thank Yous – Michael – poster distribution; Michael, Phil, and Ray for hanging up of the Say No and Say Yes signs; Surf Coast Shire for providing us with the signs and posters; GORCAPA for allowing us the opportunity to have this event and MCG for giving us extra posters.

Thank you all – amazing. Linda

Food Aid Torquay

Monday night will be our last meeting before we have our Vocational visit to Food Aid Torquay. If you can find a few dollars to purchase some food items, that we will donate, it would be amazing. Hopefully we can help some others have an enjoyable Christmas.

Thank you to those who have already contributed – you do make a difference
