President's Message
Trevor Pickles
President's Report No 41
When I finally managed to find Geelong Mums on Monday evening I had missed a significant part of the presentation however from what I did hear the organisation and the individuals/volunteers are doing a wonderful job of providing much needed items for those mums who are struggling to make ends meet. It does restore one’s faith in humanity when you can see organisations such as Geelong Mums being out there helping those not as fortunate as others.
I would like to put out a challenge to you all to put together at least 20 of these "One Mother to Another" packs for Geelong Mums to distribute to Mothers who maybe victims of family violence or whose children have no ability to give their Mum a gift for Mothers Day. A gift to make them feel special and loved on Mothers Day. Come on team let's get behind this, guys you may need some support from Partners, friends and family with this one! So spread the word Share the post on our Club Facebook Page and lets see how many we can produce. Click on the image below for more information and suggestions on what to put in the packs.
Please bring them to our meeting at Kithbrook Park on the 29th April as we need to deliver the packs to Geelong Mums by 2nd May.
A very enjoyable social dinner at the Grovedale Hotel followed the visit despite the drinks being a tad expensive!!!!!!
Monday the 22nd there is no meeting as it is Easter Monday and of course you will all know by now that the meeting on the 29th will now be held at Kithbrooke Park – many thanks to Jan Emmett who secured the venue at short notice as we had expected to be back at the Lions Village by then following the kitchen renovation.
We will be entertaining a few visitors on the 29th so make sure you are there for a special night.
Last Monday's visit Geelong Mums was very emotional experience as we discovered the fear and hardship that many Mums struggle with whilst attempting to raise their children in a safe loving environment something that all of us take for granted. The demand for the items that Geelong Mums provides in constantly increasing which places a lot of pressure on the generous private and corporate donors that support the organisation. In fact at times items need to be purchased to maintain supply.
The most urgent need at present is for packs of personal care and toiletry packs affectionately known as "One Mother to Another" packs. Last year hundreds of these were distributed to Mums in need and so the call has gone out for individuals to make up and donate packs. President Trevor has given us all a challenge to us to provide at least 20 of these packs (see Trevs Report for more details)
I would encourage all of you who are on Facebook to "Like" Geelong Mums and to Share the post calling out for the "One Mother to Another" packs.
Afterwards we went to to the Grovedale Hotel for a very tasty dinner and much fellowship to finish the evening.
Our next Club activity is to assist the RSL with the Anzac Day Dawn Service & Gunfire Breakfast. If you have not yet received the email from Alan Anderson with the Roster then Click the link below
On the 7th of September at 6.22am I will be leaving on a little journey from port Douglas in North Queensland to my final destination of THE ROCK (ULURU).YES I'm doing the Race To The Rock I've made the choice to attempt this somewhat crazy event. As the saying goes "Miles are my meditation" and this has what has got me here. So I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I want to raise awareness and support for both young males who have been touched buy mental illness as well as those in particular the young male carers like myself. I have been a main support and carer for my wife over the last 11 years and have been very isolated with minimal support until I found wellways . I'm inspired by the work of Wellways Australia Limited and wanted to support them by raising money. All money raised will go to this group to give opportunities for these young men to access activities and support Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Wellways Australia Limited , the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
