Last week we were back at home base after a short absence. Stand-in sergeant Maggie did a good impromptu job at relieving us all of some cash. As you know the fines money this year will go towards the purchase of some Aqua Box packs.
As is our tradition members of the Motor Show Committee brought us up to date with logistical arrangements for the annual event on 8th February. May I congratulate the whole Club for the fantastic job last week at the Motor Show . This is an event of which we should all be proud. I know it takes a lot of work to set up but to see the looks of nostalgia on the faces of the customers is something to behold. This event is now firmly on the social calendar of the motoring public. It also raises much needed funds which are used to help those less fortunate.
Surf Coast Shire Mayor Margot Smith reinforced the value of our Motor Show to the local Community whist addressing the crowd during the presentation ceremony.
I hope that despite all of our members being so hard at work that you all managed some time to enjoy the spectacular vehicles and the huge spectator crowd on the day.
Hopefully you all enjoyed a night off from Rotary on Monday as a reward for all of your hard work at the Motor Show
This Monday 16th February we resume back at home base for what will be one of the most important meeting this year. District Governor Elect Jane Cox who is fresh back for her DG training at the RI International Assembly in San Diego, will lead us in a Club Visioning Session which should provide us with the tools to develop long term plans and goals for our Club. I encourage all members to attend this valuable meting.
You will soon receive an invitation for a combined meeting with RC of Grovedale to be held the following week but PLEASE NOTE that this meeting will be held on WEDNESDAY 25th instead of the usual Monday night meeting.

On behalf of the Motor Show Committee I would like to thank every member of our club as well as partners and friends for you assistance at last weeks Motor Show. Without your help this major event for our Club would not be possible. As well as being one of the most significant annual fundraisers for our Club this event is now a major event on the Surf Coast Shire calendar.
Once all of the final results have been compiled for the Motor Show the Committee intends to invite the event sponsors, supporters and Judges to a Club meeting at which we will present a summary to all concerned.

WHO:- Although this is not officially a "Partners Night" we would encourage as many partners as possible to attend.
WHAT:- a carvery meal , 2 courses (main and dessert) for $15/head
BRING:- your own drinks and glass and Seat. Plus if you do not want to eat off plastic then bring Plates and cutlery
REGISTRATION:- Please register as per usual with David Mitchells Office by 9am Monday 23rd Feb Although David would like to get some approximate rough numbers by Tuesday this week.
This year’s Rotary Golf event scheduled for 2nd March in lieu of a normal Rotary meeting at the RACV golf course.
It will be a purely social fun day for Rotarians and friends and will feature a 9 Hole novelty golf event suitable for all, (both golfers and non-golfers). For those who do not wish to play in the golf game there will be Putting and Chipping competitions.
Everyone needs to be at the venue at 3.00 pm for booking in for a 4.00 pm tee off.
We would like all Rotarians to play and to invite as many friends, neighbours & relatives as they like to play.
Afterwards there will be a BBQ dinner at a Rotarians home (to be announced), prizes and trophies for golf winners and the raffling of a very nice donated prize.

Anyone who has had any involvement with Rota homes or the Koroipita Housing Project, Including our own team who were there last year, would know Peter Drysdale - the man behind this project. Peter commenced this project - called Rota Homes - in 1985. More recently it had been renamed Community Homes Trust, and Peter is coordinating the construction of a complete village approximately 10 km out of Lautoka called Koroipita (Koroipita is Fijian for 'Peter's Town').

The event is in support of the END POLIO campaign and is expected to be a major fund raiser for Geelong Clubs.
Each participant will be encouraged to seek individual sponsorship, budgeted; 500 participants at $50/head = sponsorship of $25,000
When matched with Bill & Melinda Gates contribution could see
$75,000 to Rotary Foundation – END POLIO CAMPAIGN
Two courses will be offered, 100km around the peninsula OR 50km down the centre and back through Barwon Heads
Entry fees will be $75 for 100km course and $55 for 50km course. Income based on 500 participants is budgeted to cover all event expenses.
Events start and finish at the BBQ shelter in Eastern Gardens
Ride commences at 8am, set up from 6am
Expected finish 2pm, clean up till 4pm
Volunteers will be required from each Club, so please keep this date available.
Torquay Rotarians who are ticketed for traffic management will be particularly useful. The event requires 6 of these so if us "Ticketed Torquay Rotarians"
Can fill these roles then it will save the event form having to pay for them.
Rotary District 9810 is hosting its District Conference in Ballarat between the 13th and 15th March 2015. Our District has held a fundraising bike ride every year for the last 28 years and next year we start our ride from District Conference on Sunday 15th and ride 808 ks finishing up in Ballarat on Friday 20th March. The ride leaves from Federation University, Mt Helen Campus, Ballarat (formerly Ballarat University).
The ride is to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health and as I am sure you will appreciate the more riders, the bigger chance of raising more funds. Next year we hope to raise in excess of $40,000 which will get us very close, if not over the $1 million dollars mark, raised for ARH since the inception of the Rides to and from District Conference.
If there are any bike riders in the community or in the Rotary Clubs of District 9780 who may like to join us for the ride and raise funds for ARH on behalf or their own club or on a personal basis, we would love you to join us. All funds raised would be credited by ARH to the individuals or to their own Rotary Club. The ride is open to both Rotarians, their spouses, and any other members of the public who would like to join us.

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!
Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence. This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.
There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022. An answering service operates out of hours.
All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.
Absence on travel is not an excuse. It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
Not all of us were able to make the trek to District Changeover in June, however I am sure that members of our Club would prefer not to have to wait until DG Geoff's Club visit on 6th October to get to know more about him and his vision for District 9780.
