Hello again Members and Friends,
Welcome to this week’s Bulletin.
Christmas in July
Last Monday night was our traditional mid-year “Fireside Chats” themed as Christmas In July. Thankyou to our Hosts for the evening, Margaret, Greg and Gail, Trevor and Gail, Graham and Lois, Lesley and Rob.
By all accounts that have come to me, it was a very enjoyable evening sharing some laughs, delicious food and one or two beverages of your choice. Thank you to Gail Chrisfield for her coordination and arrangement. Keep an eye out for photos and anecdotes in this and future Bulletins.
Next Meeting Monday 7th July @Kithbrook
August is Membership and Extension Month on the Rotary Calendar. IPP Ben as our Membership Chair will Chair this meeting and I believe he has a couple of surprises to share. As part of the evening there will be a Member Behind the Badge session with a twist.
It would be great if all members could read the Special Edition attachment to the August RDU Magazine regarding Membership. Come along prepared to contribute to the conversation about membership.
Pop Up Book Sale Saturday 26th August @ ARP Grovedale
Linda Neale and Michael Reed have been working to set up another Pop-Up Book Sale at Michael’s business premises AR Photos in Grovedale. This event is an important part of our fundraising activity.
Michael and Linda are looking for members and friends to assist in setting up and keeping the supply of books up to the expected book hungry hordes. Please consider giving a hand between 7am and 3pm.
District Grant
Thank you to Robyn O’Loughlin, supported by the International Committee, Lucy Loko and Judy Beasley for putting together a District Grant Application to support our Lese Oalai Project in PNG. The Grant, if successful, will provide funding to conduct site and groundwork assessments for the project.
Torquay Community House (TCH) Community Lunch
Last Tuesday, Judy and I joined Robyn and Gerard Smith at a Community Lunch held at TCH. We joined others from Warralily Nursing Home, Torquay Men’s Shed and senior community members for lunch.
Students from Surf Coast Secondary College’s Hands On Learning prepare the meal (usually the day before) and serve the 2-course meal to those attending. We enjoyed Spaghetti Bolognese followed by Tira Misu on tables set in an Italian Theme. Very Enjoyable!!
We have invited the SCSC Hands On Learning Coordinator Emy Kennedy to a future Club Meeting as our guest speaker.
Torquay Community Enterprise to Support the Business Excellence Awards
Trevor Hall and I met with members of Torquay Community Enterprise (a Bendigo Bank community support initiative) following a grant application prepared by Trevor. I won’t spoil any more of Trevor’s thunder, but we had a good result. Thankyou Trevor.
The discussions we had have given us some new insight into a potential review of the categories and key selection criteria. Stay tuned for more discussion on this.
Contributing to Our Bulletin
This is a call out to all members to contribute in the form of short written articles and photos for inclusion in future bulletins.
Say No to Family Violence Local Committee and Australian Rotary Health Local Committee
I am still looking for club members to express an interest in representing our club on these committees. Meetings will be mostly online.
