President's Report No 26

Hi Everyone,

It was a good turn out at Cosy Corner last week given the cool conditions. Everyone bought along their own meal and the Henderson’s put us all to shame with their bbq’ing skills!

I passed on the Club’s condolences to Geoff Dawson on the passing of Karen’s father and thank you to Maggie for sending flowers on the Club’s behalf.

Thursday saw another busy Nightjar event with  over 700 cars parked. A big thank you to Brian Mynott for leading the team. It was another huge effort-well done team. We got some good PR on the Nightjar page as well, noting that we as a Club decide on disbursement of funds raised throughout the year.

This week sees us holding a joint meeting with the members of RC Grovedale/Waurn Ponds at The Range-Curlewis. I believe they have around 27 people coming along so combined we will have a big meeting! The challenge will be on with Mini Golf and there is a prize for the ugliest golf attire. See you there!

Also we have the Book Fair coming up and the call has gone out for assistance with setting up and collecting books from Rhonda’s so let her know if you can help out.

Have a great week!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Kelly😁

Those who made it to the Cosy Corner Picnic Social night last Monday had an enjoyable evening

The Hendersons did it in style...……… Not so the rest of us...

Bushfire Relief Donation Options - Be Sure The Money Reaches Those in Need
As much of Australia deals with the tragedy of Bushfires many donation funds are being set up by both government and private groups, and one of the most commonly asked questions is

"Which Charity will ensure that your donation dollars reach those in need?"

When you donate through Rotary you can be assured that over 97% of the monies raised will go directly to those in need.

We are very saddened by the devastating bushfires in our district and across Australia. If you are looking to donate to help those suffering, it is important to make sure your donation is well directed. Below are details of 2 Rotary funds which are assisting those affected.

1. RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service National Fire Appeal
This is the only option for those who can only donate to a recipient with DGR (Donor Gift Recipient) status, or those who want tax deductibility on their donations. Go to www.rawcs.org.au to donate. To make sure the funds go to those affected by the fires in our district, tag the donation to ‘East Gippsland’. RAWCS do use 2.75% of the donations for administration.

2. East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee
This is an account of the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale with the funds controlled by the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee. Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Projects Account BSB 633000 Acct 165960451. Please email the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee when you donate eastgrotaryfireaid@gmail.com

Other worthy causes are:-

East Gippsland Hay Donations and transport costs
For those wishing to donate hay to East Gippsland or elsewhere it is being organised through ‘Need for Feed’

Go to http://www.needforfeed.org/  to arrange it.

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray. The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includes reimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder.

image

You are invited to contribute to a project to support Purple House, an organisation that provides dialysis services to remote indigenous people in Central Australia.

Purple House is an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Now operating 16 remote clinics and a mobile dialysis unit called the Purple Truck, Purple House is  getting patients back home so that families and culture can remain strong.

DG Rosanne Kava has asked us all to provide any of the following items to our Assistant Governor, Judy Beasley,  who will pass them on to Purple House CEO Sarah Brown for delivery to clients in remote communities
  • Soaps, shampoos, conditioner, body lotion and toiletries including combs, brushes, toothpaste and tooth brushes  (no sanitary items as they are sourced elsewhere).
  • Special recognition will be given to the Club that provides the top contribution.
Think about volunteering to assist Purple House if you are travelling in central Australia, eg to assist in building a new Purple House in Coober Pedy, or as a nurse on the Purple Bus or one of the Purple Houses.   Click the image for more details or CLICK HERE to contact Purple House or phone         08 8953 6444.

Please give your donated items to Lesley Shedden or Mike Reed at any of our Monday meetings.
