President’s Message

Hello,

By all accounts Monday’s gathering at the Henderson’s was a success. Thank you for surprising Leo with a birthday cake - he was truly surprised and very appreciative.
This morning I dropped him off to go to the airport for Safari in WA. Wishing him and all the exchange students a fabulous 3 week adventure! Leo please send us some photos.
Our Bunnings BBQ on the weekend saw a good amount raised and thank you again to those that worked on it.
 PELS & District Assembly
I have been remiss in not promoting DISTRICT ASSEMBLY and draw all members attention to it. Linda will be also undertaking a President Elect Leadership Seminar the day before. Please consider attending and car pooling. This is a great opportunity to discover more of what Rotary is up to in our District and beyond. It also fosters connections and collaborations with other clubs. I have personally found it to be extremely informative. Unfortunately I can’t attend due to a family event in SA.
 Details are:
PELS 2 and District Assembly will be held in Horsham on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May, 2026 from 10:00am - 4:00pm each day. The venue is the Horsham Town Hall and the cost per day is $60 which includes morning tea and lunch each day.

Upcoming meeting Monday 20 April 2026
Reminder that we start at 5:30pm for 6:00pm at The Lakehouse @ Kithbrooke Park, BYO drinks. Guest speaker - Cameron Loftus CEO Barwon Sports Academy.
I am inspired again by PE Linda Neale this week (please see her article). My Presidential challenge this week is for ALL OF US to promote volunteering with Blaze Aid to our personal networks. This could be in conversation, sharing a Blaze Aid facebook post or suggesting it to travellers.
Finally, keeping our members and their families who are dealing with ill health in our thoughts and prayers.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Kelly

ANZAC Day Morning Service 25th April 2026

Please let us know if you are available to come down and our roles will be outlined. They will be similar to last year.

We will also be applying wrist bands for those who will be seated.

We are still waiting to find out our roles, but let us know if you will be available anyway.

Thank you to Richard Hawker for phoning everyone who has already offered. Hopefully you are now aware of your role.

Blazeaid

Last week I was at the Gellibrand BlazeAid Camp. Sadly, due to the number of camps (6) within Victoria, after our dreadful fires, there are insufficient Volunteers in the Camps. My first two days there were only three of us. There were five of us on Saturday. Overall we managed to complete three fences for the two farmers. We did dodge a fair bit of rain, but the air was fresh and clean and overall quite invigorating.

Social Gathering at the Hendersons

Monday evening saw our regular meeting transferred to the Henderson residence. We held an old fashioned “fireside chat” with 13 members and Leo. A number of different topics were discussed. During winter there may be other meetings with low attendance so the concept of meeting at Kithbrooke and self catering was examined – and thought to be a workable idea but hopefully will not required.

End Trachoma - Australia is eligible to apply for validation of elimination

Many members will recall the collections we made of toiletries to put together toiletry bags in support of the End Trachoma 2020 campaign.

The great news, which we all received recently, is that our efforts have contributed to Australia reducing the rate of trachoma nationally to 1.5% with both the NT and WA seeing decreases on 2023 results.

The other good news is that Australia is eligible to apply for validation of elimination as a public health problem as from 2025 - ie 3 years of overall trachoma prevalence below 5% (acknowledging that this report is for 2024).

It is worth reflecting that what was a relatively simple service project could have such a positive impact on the local communities in NT and WA.
