Looking forward to catching up with you all back at our usual venue this week when we will welcome Ana Galvez, Interplast’s recently appointed Rotarian Engagement Coordinator as our speaker for the evening. Ana was awarded a Rotary Peace Fellowship in 2007-2009 when she was based at the Rotary Peace Centre in Tokyo, Japan which I am sure be a most interesting presentation.
A wonderful night was had at the Davidson Restaurant last week. We were joined by many Partners and guests for fine food, wines and fellowship. Mark Gingell, Manager of The Davidson, provided us all with a great insight on the operation and challenges of the Hospitality Department of the Gordon.

Yesterday at 6.22am I left on journey from port Douglas in North Queensland to my final destination of THE ROCK (ULURU).YES I'm doing the Race To The Rock I've made the choice to attempt this somewhat crazy event. As the saying goes "Miles are my meditation" and this has what has got me here. So I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I want to raise awareness and support for both young males who have been touched buy mental illness as well as those in particular the young male carers like myself. I have been a main support and carer for my wife over the last 11 years and have been very isolated with minimal support until I found wellways . I'm inspired by the work of Wellways Australia Limited and wanted to support them by raising money. All money raised will go to this group to give opportunities for these young men to access activities and support Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Wellways Australia Limited , the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
You will be pleased to know that our Club has sponsored Rodney with $1,000 to go to the Wellways cause.
DAY 1
So I have pulled up in Irvinebank this arvo after having a rogue stick destroy my dyno switch and wiring loom. I think I have rewired it to get the lights working at least!? A huge thanks to the local publican here who has helped out with extra tools and wire and pies!!! I will be back out early tomorrow to test it out!!!

You are invited to contribute to a project to support Purple House, an organisation that provides dialysis services to remote indigenous people in Central Australia.
Purple House is an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Now operating 16 remote clinics and a mobile dialysis unit called the Purple Truck, Purple House is getting patients back home so that families and culture can remain strong.
DG Rosanne Kava has asked us all to provide any of the following items to our Assistant Governor, Judy Beasley, who will pass them on to Purple House CEO Sarah Brown for delivery to clients in remote communities
Soaps, shampoos, conditioner, body lotion and toiletries including combs, brushes, toothpaste and tooth brushes (no sanitary items as they are sourced elsewhere).
Special recognition will be given to the Club that provides the top contribution.
Think about volunteering to assist Purple House if you are travelling in central Australia, eg to assist in building a new Purple House in Coober Pedy, or as a nurse on the Purple Bus or one of the Purple Houses. Please give your donated items to Lesley Shedden or Mike Reed at any of our Monday meetings.
Message from International PolioPlus Chair Michael K. McGovern on Nigeria reaching three years without a case of wild poliovirus
My fellow Rotarians:
I’m pleased to share the important news that as of today, 21 August 2019, it has been three years since a child in Nigeria was paralyzed by the wild poliovirus. This means that the entire World Health Organization (WHO) African region could be certified as wild poliovirus-free as soon as mid-2020. Along with our Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners and the Nigerian government, we’ve strengthened immunization and disease detection systems, and we are now reaching more children than ever in some of the hardest-to-reach places in Nigeria.
We can take pride in this progress, but it is not time to celebrate quite yet. We still have work to do and we must continue making it a priority to reach every child in Nigeria—and other polio-threatened countries—with the polio vaccine, and build strong levels of immunity to fully protect the entire population against polio. In part because of the hard work and dedication of Rotarians in Nigeria and around the world, we will soon be able to check another country off of the polio-endemic list. Rotary members in Nigeria have been hard at work raising awareness for polio eradication, advocating with the government and addressing other basic health needs to complement polio eradication efforts, like providing clean water to vulnerable communities. After the African region is certified wild poliovirus-free later next year, 5 out of the 6 WHO regions in the world will be considered polio-free. As the first organization to dream of – and promise to deliver – a polio-free world, Rotary is committed to fulfilling our promise. Our progress in Nigeria is a big step toward that goal, but we need to maintain momentum so that Pakistan and Afghanistan see the same level of progress. It’s crucial that Rotarians continue to support polio eradication as we overcome the final hurdles in the fight to end the disease forever. You can support PolioPlus by making a donation, or raise awareness by holding an event or fundraiser on World Polio Day on 24 October.
I look forward to joining with Rotarians as soon as mid-2020 to celebrate a wild poliovirus-free Africa.

We are now fully operational with our new system for registering for our weekly dinner meetings. Called Whoozin, this program is used by other local Rotary Clubs with great success.

You can immediately accept or decline, leave until later.
You will receive a reminder email on the Friday Prior
You will have until Midnight Sunday to register your RSVP and can change your decision right up until the closing time.
