Talking of Schools, we have again been invited to participate in Mock Job Interviews at Grovedale Secondary College this Tuesday the 3rd of September and Friday the 6th. If you are available please read the article later in the Bulletin.

Birchalls
Thanks to Gail and Greg Birchall for stepping in at the last minute to host our group as unfortunately Charmaine and Vernon departed for India at very short notice.
Once again Grovedale College is undertaking Mock Interviews with our year 9 students and we would like the help of some interviewers.
Grovedale Rotary will be assisting us again and we are trying to finalise the number of interviewers this week in order to schedule interviewers and finalise times ASAP.
As with last year interviewers must also be able to provide a current Working With Children Check to be able to participate.
We have scheduled this for next week, Tuesday the 3rd of September and Friday the 6th. It would run in a similar fashion to last year with approximately 170 students over the 2 days.
It would be wonderful if some members of your Club could assist with this again this year. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
You are invited to contribute to a project to support Purple House, an organisation that provides dialysis services to remote indigenous people in Central Australia.
Purple House is an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Now operating 16 remote clinics and a mobile dialysis unit called the Purple Truck, Purple House is getting patients back home so that families and culture can remain strong.
DG Rosanne Kava has asked us all to provide any of the following items to our Assistant Governor, Judy Beasley, who will pass them on to Purple House CEO Sarah Brown for delivery to clients in remote communities
Soaps, shampoos, conditioner, body lotion and toiletries including combs, brushes, toothpaste and tooth brushes (no sanitary items as they are sourced elsewhere).
Special recognition will be given to the Club that provides the top contribution.
Think about volunteering to assist Purple House if you are travelling in central Australia, eg to assist in building a new Purple House in Coober Pedy, or as a nurse on the Purple Bus or one of the Purple Houses. Click the image for more details or CLICK HERE to contact Purple House or phone 08 8953 6444.
Please give your donated items to Lesley Shedden or Mike Reed at any of our Monday meetings.
Message from International PolioPlus Chair Michael K. McGovern on Nigeria reaching three years without a case of wild poliovirus
My fellow Rotarians:
I’m pleased to share the important news that as of today, 21 August 2019, it has been three years since a child in Nigeria was paralyzed by the wild poliovirus. This means that the entire World Health Organization (WHO) African region could be certified as wild poliovirus-free as soon as mid-2020. Along with our Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners and the Nigerian government, we’ve strengthened immunization and disease detection systems, and we are now reaching more children than ever in some of the hardest-to-reach places in Nigeria.
We can take pride in this progress, but it is not time to celebrate quite yet. We still have work to do and we must continue making it a priority to reach every child in Nigeria—and other polio-threatened countries—with the polio vaccine, and build strong levels of immunity to fully protect the entire population against polio. In part because of the hard work and dedication of Rotarians in Nigeria and around the world, we will soon be able to check another country off of the polio-endemic list. Rotary members in Nigeria have been hard at work raising awareness for polio eradication, advocating with the government and addressing other basic health needs to complement polio eradication efforts, like providing clean water to vulnerable communities. After the African region is certified wild poliovirus-free later next year, 5 out of the 6 WHO regions in the world will be considered polio-free. As the first organization to dream of – and promise to deliver – a polio-free world, Rotary is committed to fulfilling our promise. Our progress in Nigeria is a big step toward that goal, but we need to maintain momentum so that Pakistan and Afghanistan see the same level of progress. It’s crucial that Rotarians continue to support polio eradication as we overcome the final hurdles in the fight to end the disease forever. You can support PolioPlus by making a donation, or raise awareness by holding an event or fundraiser on World Polio Day on 24 October.
I look forward to joining with Rotarians as soon as mid-2020 to celebrate a wild poliovirus-free Africa.
