Thank you and welcome to our weekly Bulletin
What an informative evening we had online, through Teams, on Monday, when Stephen Humphries spoke about Australia Rotary Health.
He spoke about how funds were used- with Research into Mental Health and with younger people being increasingly affected by mental health issues the need for research is increasing more and more: SIDS, which Rotary helped in its initial research days and how the number of infant deaths has reduced so dramatically by implementation of the findings. ARH also supports Scholarships to Rural Medical and Nursing students and Indigenous Health Care Workers. These areas are where there is a shortage of Health Care Workers and scholarships help to support potential candidates/students, and the Government has pulled back on supporting these programs. A suggestion that Stephen had was for people to attend a Mental Health First Aid Course. (I have completed this course and found it to be beneficial. We will look into this and determine its feasibility). A great presentation and it provided us with valuable information.
On another note – I have received an Email from the Cowrie Market Organisers. The first BBQ is 20th September. I need to know this coming week whether I am registering us to have our Barbeque Trailer at Cowrie Markets. Also, if we are to take the trailer, then is there a team to run the barbeque in September? We would need 8 volunteers 4 for the AM and 4 for the second shift. More volunteers if you want shorter hours. Please give me feedback as soon as you read this Bulletin
We do also need to know if you want us the run Barbeques at Bunnings. I have not really received feedback that indicates what you, the Rotary Club of Torquay, want. Do we do BBQs at Bunnings or not? If we do, are you prepared to work at it? Rosters can be drawn up to suit whatever shift you want. We don’t necessarily need to have the trailer – we can make up a kit that we collect and take to Bunnings whenever we are rostered. We do need to know as soon as possible.
Monday nights meeting will be online, on Teams, due to insufficient numbers. Misha Coleman will present a talk on Interplast. Please come in online and listen. You can sit in your warm loungerooms and watch her presentation. See you Monday night
Have a great week; stay safe and healthy. Linda
