Hello Members and Friends,
We were very fortunate to have Graeme Stockton speak at our club meeting last Monday night to learn a lot more about how special Spring Creek is as part of our local environment.
You will remember that the fight to save Spring Creek from further development was finally won in January this year. What was more interesting and inspiring was the fight was won by local action by the Friends of Spring Creek and the broader community not by legal argument from the developers. Please see Gerard Hogan’s article further on in this bulletin for more information.
Linda Neale, with her RAM (Rotarians Against Malaria) hat on reported of our Board decision to donate $1000 to supply mosquito nets to the Gulf Province in PNG, which is experiencing a severe outbreak of malaria follow recent flooding earlier this year.
John Oswald has arranged the transfer of funds to purchase of 16 bales of LLIN (Long Lasting Insecticide Nets, each with 50 family sized mosquito nets) which will provide protection for 800 families in the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea, where there is a current outbreak. The funding for this was provided by the Rotary Clubs of Torquay, Hamilton, and Bayside Geelong in District 9780.
Well, done to Linda and thankyou to John for executing the plan.
This coming Monday night is our Club assembly and an important meeting to redevelop our Club Strategic Plan. Gerard Hogan and Garth Symington will lead us through the first stage of the process.
A Call for Rotary Community Leaders
District 9780 is looking to hear from Rotarians who would be interested in taking up the role of Community Leader for one of the four Community Groups across the District. The clubs in the Greater Geelong area including Torquay, Bellarine Noth and Ocean Grove.
DGE Lesley would be very pleased to have a conversation with you regarding this rewarding leadership role.
See You Monday Night
