President's Report No 44
Please have a read of this 2nd Edition Bulletin which includes more details of Next Weeks Speaker Dr David Meade from Barwon Health..............
I was not able to attend last week’s meeting, back at the Lions Village, but I have no doubt Kelly ran the meeting very well in my absence, thanks Kelly.
This week will, as usual, be a relaxed and social gathering and we will be informed and entertained by Bruce Smith who will be the ‘Rotarian behind the Badge’.
Our penultimate Board Meeting for this Rotary year will take place next week, June 20 after the General Meeting and a reminder to our soon-to-be new Board Members for 2019-2020 that you are invited to attend.
Before the end of my Presidency, we would like to host a Happy Hour at our home – on Saturday June 14, running from 5 to 7pm. It will be BYO drink and a plate of nibbles to share. Yes, I know they are usually run on Friday evenings but please note this is a Saturday!!
Our Masterchefs, Lorraine & Rodney, finally.....hard at work in the "New" kitchen at the Lions Village
Last Monday we were treated to presentations from two young adults who have participated in Rotary youth programs.
Michell Ladhams was our sole participant in last months RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program when Zac Plumridge was forced to withdraw at the last minute with the onset of a migraine.
Mitchells presentation was very honest, frank and incredibly well articulated, and gave us all a great insight into the life changing program at RYLA. Mitchell described the experience as being like living in a bubble without the distractions and pressures of everyday life which provided the opportunity to understand and learn more about yourself. In fact since completing RYLA has commenced writing a book. Mitchell has proved to be a very deserving recipient of the RYLA program and has done our Club proud.
Pia Westaway is the Daughter of our soon to be member, Alanna Begg. Pia was on Exchange in Canada at the same time as Kelly and Paul's son, Liam which is when their friendship began . As always it was inspiring to hear Pia's story of her Exchange experience and the effect it has had on her life.
These two young adults are positive proof that the Rotary Youth Programs RYLA and Youth Exchange are still very relevant in todays world and producing positive life results for their participants.
We will be privileged next week to have Dr David Meade as our speaker. David is the Co Director Community Health, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care / Director Allied Health| Barwon Health who will be speaking to us on:-
A LIFE-CHANGING REHABILITATION FACILITY that WILL HELP MAKE DREAMS A REALITY FOR MANY GEELONG CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, WITH HELP FROM THE COMMUNITY.
This is a very important issue in our community and Dr Meade's presentation will be timely as it will immediately follow the upcoming Federal Election. We encourage Partners to attend to hear this very informative speaker.
Guests are welcome. $25 for two course dinner, Drinks at Club prices
Wow what a sensational result. To receive over $162,000 towards our Social Inclusion Project from the luncheon was beyond our wildest dreams, it certainly showed us what the business and general community of Geelong can do.
The funds will result in our program being able to be expanded and enable more young people to be helped and hopefully become engaged in the community and go onto live better quality lives.
Your organisations contribution and support was very much appreciated for without it we could not have reached such heights. Since we started in 2017 we are seeing increasing evidence of the positive impact our Social Inclusion project is having on the lives of many of our young people. As you would appreciate many more young people remain disengaged from the community and we plan to continue to strive to help as many as we can.
We have commenced preliminary planning for next year's Business Luncheon again in early May with the date dependent upon the AFL draw and Geelong home games. Hopefully you and your team will continue to support us in 2020.
Thanks again for your support.
PS, thanks for your Rotary Club support and notes in your Bulletin.
