16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence
Last Saturday 25th November, Judy and I, Linda Neale and Rotarians from Bayside Geelong, Ocean Grove, Highton, Bellarine North attended Zonta Geelong’s Rally to Say No to Family and Domestic Violence. This rally kicked off the 16 Days of Activism which runs through to Sunday 10th December (Human Rights Day)
It was a lovely morning in Geelong, with a short walk from the Barwon Water Building to Johnstone Park where the rally was held. We listened to speakers from Zonta Geelong, City of Greater Geelong and The Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre in Geelong.
The startling statistic for me was that 2 in every 5 women are subjected to or suffer from some level of domestic violence daily within our very own community. Just let that startling statistic wash over you and soak in.
But what can I do? You may well ask.
Well, my suggestion is to at least become better informed and use the remainder of the 16 Days of Activism to become better informed.

At Our Last Meeting
This week’s speaker was PDG Anthony Ohlsen who is the District Rotary Foundation Chair. Anthony gave us an update on how the Foundation works including Fund Raising, Contributions and the provision of Grants, both District and Global.
Here’s the breakdown for the previous Rotary Year 2021-22. Our Contributions at work!
I would also like to share with you an enjoyable You Tube clip about how global Grants are funded. Enjoy!
Next Meeting
Our Next Meeting, Monday 4th December will be a hybrid meeting at Kithbrooke Park and online.
We have two guest speakers:
Nash Cox, who is our Out Bound Rotary Youth Exchangee to Denmark. Nash will make his presentation which is part of his preparation for his exchange which kicks off in January.
PP Graeme Cox, who is the District Youth Protection Officer, who will update us our responsibilities and requirements.
Please consider attending this meeting in person to provide Nash with a worthy audience to present to. Partners are also most welcome.
