Report No 25

Monday 18th December
What a wonderful turnout we had for our Christmas celebration at the Torquay Hotel. There was a real buzz of fun and happiness!

Dr Mindy Gill (Daughter of Graham and Lois Gill) and Sam Dharmapala
I had the privilege of meeting Mindy and her husband Sam this week, who are visiting from Cebu, Philippines,  for Christmas. They run the most fabulous program for people who have been rescued from slavery.
Mindy does world-first research and implements health and well-being programs to help these people re-build their self-esteem and their lives while Sam runs a commercial business which provides employment for them and teaches them to become independent and successful.
I am hoping that Sam will be able to come and speak at our club in the new year as this would be a great program for Rotary to support in some way.

Invitation to ROMAC'S 30th Anniversary on 16th March 2018
You will be in the illustrious company of the current Rotary International President, Ian H.S. Riseley, and his wife Juliet; The Hon. Brad Hazzard, NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research & other dignitaries.
Venue: Strangers’ Dining Room, NSW Parliament House, Sydney.
Cost (includes 3 courses and drinks): $150 per person
Limited seating left so urgent booking required at https://www.humanitix.com/event/romac/

Our thoughts go to Vernon D'Souza who will be spending Christmas in Geelong Hospital undergoing tests following a sudden episode that resulted in an unexpected ambulance ride to hospital. We find hope that the Doctors have you feeling better real soon.

Next Meeting is on 8th January 2018
Partners night at Cozy Corner.

I wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

President Gaynor Schols

Thanks to all who came and made or 2017 Christmas Party a successful night. If the level of noise in the room from he chatter was any indication then everyone was obviously having a great time.

I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas wherever you are.

Book Fair Update - More Books Needed

Book Fair - More Books Required

Last weeks article in the Surfcoast Times has resulted in a massive number of additional books coming our way. We have also been donated a quantity of book ends so everything is coming together well.

Stay tuned for details of a Book Fair working bee coming up to sort more books in preparation prior to the Fair.

Please put the word out amongst Friends, Family, Neighbours & Work Colleagues for any unwanted books. We have had posters made for shops and staff notice boards calling for donations so please let me know if you need some.

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable
to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.
This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book"
that is available at the check in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.
An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements
  • were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the
  • usual dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this
be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
