President's Report No 30

Monday 29th January
We had no meeting this week so I hope everyone has recovered from the sterling efforts over the Australia Day weekend.
We raised $7,987.25 at the book fair, $4210.56 from parking at the Night Jar Markets and $900 from marshalling at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. Wonderful work from all concerned!

The Motor Show committee has also been hard at work planning for 11th February. As you know this is our biggest fundraising event each year and requires all hands on deck.
Greg has arranged a photo shoot with the newspapers for Tuesday so hopefully you will see a good article later in the week.
If you have any changes for the volunteer roster please let Lesley Shedden know immediately.

D9780 Conference in Mt Gambier: 6-8 April
A further appeal to all members to register for the conference now please. The Conference Dinner will be held at “The Barn” and the theme will be ERRUPT WITH JAZZ. The special entertainer for the night is world-famous jazz musician James Morrison. There will also be a shuttle bus back to hotels in town. A night not to be missed!

Give the Gift of Rotary
On 23 February, Rotary will celebrate its 113th anniversary. Consider making a special birthday gift to The Rotary Foundation. When you give to the Annual Fund, you empower Rotarians to improve their communities and make lasting change.

If anyone has an idea for a project that will qualify us for a District Grant (up to $3000) please let me know as we need to start the application soon.

Monday 5th February
This meeting is dedicated to planning for the Motor Show, so please come along to make sure you understand your role on Sunday 11th February.

Stories
It's Motor Show time! Sunday 11th Feb

This year's Motor Show will be rolling in quickly following our busy BBQ, Book Fair and Night Jar Market Parking. Please think about your availability and what task you may be interested in performing on the Day. Vernon and Lesley will be compiling the Draft Roster for volunteers during the next couple of weeks.
Please also canvass Partners, Friends and Family who may be able to assist us.

Please contact Vernon 0408 331661 or Lesley 0417 112064 if you are unavailable or have any additional helpers to enlist.

We expect more than 300 Vintage, Veteran, Classic and Contemporary Cars and Motor Cycles to compete for trophies in 26 Classes including a new class for Best Volkswagen.

Spectators will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these stunning automotive gems. You will be in awe of the craftsmanship that has gone into both the original design & the manufacture of these much-loved vehicles and the restoration skills of the passionate owners who have lovingly cared for them.

There has been some additional tweaking of Classes to even out entry numbers so we encourage everyone to visit our website to take a look at the revised Entry Form.

You are invited to join in the carnival atmosphere of this popular event held at the spectacular beach side setting of the Torquay foreshore.

This is a “Show for the whole family” with, the Beach for the kids, the Shops for the Ladies and the Cars for the Boys!

Entry Fees remain the same for 2018 at $20 for car & driver, with Adults $5 & Children free.

BBQ & Night Jar Parking - Update

You will have now received a completed 2017-18 BBQ Roster Spreadsheet via email. The Roster is also saved in Clubrunner Club Documents or Click this link BBQ ROSTER

Thanks you for your hard work with the Night Jar Market Parking Nights for 2018.

This year you managed to collect a whopping $4210.56 from Parking Cars. It was a shame that despite all of the hype and expectation the "4th Night" was a massive let down from our perspective. It will be interesting what will happen next year as there will be 5 Thursdays in January 2019..............anyway our next event will be the BBQ at our Motor Show on Sunday 11th Feb followed by the Cowrie Market the following week on the 18th Feb so please keep a close watch on the Roster to see when you are on.

If you are unable to do your rostered session then please find someone to swap with and advise me of the change.

Thanks Brian

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable
to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.
This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book"
that is available at the check in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.
An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements
  • were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the
  • usual dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this
be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
